Prep For A Summer Of Entertaining & Relaxing

Summer 2020 is just about here! The opening of restaurants, boardwalks, and other local businesses we love during the summer is uncertain, and it is likely travel plans have been put on a pause. One thing is certain, however, that we will be spending most of our time at home in comparison to previous summers. To prepare for a summer of staycations, try to get creative and maximize the space that you have in your backyard, patio, or even outdoor dining areas. Here are a few tips to help you get ready for the summer season:

Dining Areas

Dining al fresco is something special! There is nothing like sharing a meal or drinks with those close to you, especially under the stars with warm weather and ocean breezes. With proper planning, you can transform your outdoor space into the new happy hour spot!

To start, choose the area to set up in and your furniture. Function and style are equally important for outdoor furniture, so be sure to pick something comfortable, yet durable, and also matches the aesthetic you desire. Do you prefer something light and beachy, such as teak furniture with glass tables? Or do you like the clean, sleek looks, like metal or marble?

If your backyard has a lot of grass or a garden, rustic and natural materials are a great combination to complement the surrounding nature. Don’t forget a bar cart to keep the drinks cool!

Once you have your furniture ready, it’s time to add decor that compliments your chosen style! To create the perfect tablescape, you need to combine the right elements carefully so they do not clash. An elegant look can be made by mixing and matching your table linens, layering your plates, and bringing in beautiful fresh flowers from the garden.

Finish the look with soft lighting for a relaxing, more refined atmosphere. Citronella candles are a great way to keep away any pesky bugs, or choose electric candles that won’t blow out in the breeze. If the area allows, lighting fixtures and string lights can easily enhance the ambiance of your setting.

Fire Pits

Fire pits are a fabulous feature for your outdoor area and can be appreciated year-round too! Even if you don’t have a patio, adding a fire pit can be a simple weekend DIY project by laying bricks and a fire bowl. If you have the time for a bigger renovation, you can include special features, such as a cocktail tabletop or cooking surfaces. No kid can resist an evening by the fire pit when s’mores are around too!

Living Space

Think of your patio, deck, or porch as an extension of the living room. Guests should feel welcomed and relaxed while enjoying the outdoors! Choose durable furniture that can stand through rain and other severe weather while staying comfortable with quick-dry cushions. Porch swings are a popular trend lately and not only are they stylish, but they’re the perfect spot for reading or simply relaxing in the sun! Add some throw blankets for a nice pop of color and to keep warm on chilly nights. You may want to consider an outdoor rug to tie everything together!

Hosting can be a tiring task, so remember to have fun with it. Keep the drinks cool and guests entertained and your house will be the place to be this summer. Enjoy it, and make memories you’ll cherish for years! For more design inspiration and information on Jersey Shore Real Estate, see my Instagram account @jerseyshorerealestate and read my other blogs.
