Nancy Meyers - Writer, Director, Producer… but for many, she is also viewed and widely recognized as an interior design guru! For those of you who may not know her films, Nancy is responsible for numerous critically and commercially successful romantic comedy films, including The Parent Trap, What Women Want, Something's Gotta Give, The Holiday, It's Complicated, and The Intern. Apart from these film’s excellent storylines, humor and light-heartedness, something they also all have in common are their awe-inspiring sets. In particular, the kitchen and interior spaces she’s created - full of light, spacious and welcoming, beautifully stocked in equipment and homey touches, they are the epitome of warm and heart led interiors. I’d love to share some tips & tricks to add some Nancy Meyers-inspired touches to your home! Be sure to also check out the fun, interactive quiz from Buzzfeed that I’ve included where you can build yourself an extravagant house and find out which Nancy Meyers movie you belong in! Because why not have a little bit of fun?

Colorful Fruits & Veggies

Display fruits & veggies (real or faux) to add pops of color, texture and a healthy, earthy feel. And I’m not talking about one or two pieces, I’m talking bowls filled with a variety of apples, oranges, grapes, bananas - anything with beautiful colors that can withstand not being refrigerated. The more the merrier, and it’s a healthy reminder to eat your fruit and vegetables, and also visit your local farmers market on the weekends so stock up!

Natural Elements

Flowers, succulents, ferns, you name it, they all have found a place on a Nancy Meyer’s kitchen set, and for good reason. Similar to the fruits and vegetables, plans of all variations are a spectacular way to liven up your space, literally! It’s like having living, breathing art in your home. Keep this in mind next time you’re at the plant nursery, to not only purchase for outdoors but for the indoors as well!

Show Off the Goods

By this I mean show off some delicious baked goods - muffins, croissants, danishes, even mason jars of freshly made granola all deserve a place in a Nancy Meyers kitchen. Which means, they deserve a place in yours too. Even if you aren’t a pro baker, pay a visit to a nearby bakery like The Scone Pony in Spring Lake or Del Ponte’s in Bradley Beach and stock up on some eye-catching goodies!

Pots, Pans & Appliances

One of the most quintessential elements to Nancy’s interior decor technique is her ability to portray a vibrant, lived-in quality within the sets she creates. In reference to her kitchens, there’s always ample pots, pans and appliances on display to symbolize that “cooking happens here” feeling. Stock up on all of your favorite kitchen gadgets and cooking sets and be sure to hang and display them artfully around your space.
